Abbott Nutrition

Founded in Ohio in 1903, Abbott Nutrition is headquartered in Columbus and recently opened a $270 million, 240-employee manufacturing facility in Tipp City, Ohio. The plant produces two of the company's fastest growing adult nutritional brands.


In Ohio, Alkermes manufactures several medicines, including VIVITROL®, which is approved for the treatment of alcohol dependence and the prevention of relapse to opioid dependence following opioid detoxification. The global organization has been growing steadily since it came Ohio more than 20 years ago, recently adding more than 90 jobs to the existing 440-person workforce.

Aprecia Pharmaceuticals

Aprecia developed the first FDA-approved 3-D printed medication and is manufactured in Ohio. ZipDose® Technology is Aprecia’s unique delivery platform leveraging 3-D printing for easier administration of high-dose medications.

AstraZeneca/Amylin Pharmaceuticals

To manufacture its long-acting release formulation of exenatide (Bydureon®), a treatment for Type 2 diabetes, Amylin Pharmaceuticals significantly expanded its plant. This added an estimated 500 jobs to the West Chester, Ohio, facility. 

Daiichi-Sankyo's subsidiary Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc. manufactures and distributes more than 65 pharmaceutical products, including the leading IV iron therapy in the U.S. The company operates three facilities in Columbus, including a 40,000-square-foot cGMP-compliant sterile manufacturing facility, a 20,000-square-foot R&D facility, and a 20,000-square-foot facility targeted for API manufacturing. 


Xellia, a Denmark-based pharmaceutical company, acquired a site in Bedford, Ohio. The 170-job expansion in the state will strengthen Xellia's global manufacturing capacity for anti-infectives.

Teva Women’s Health

Teva Women’s Health develops and markets women’s health products including oral contraceptives, intrauterine contraception, and hormone therapy treatments for menopause and perimenopause. The company, formerly known as Duramed Pharmaceuticals, is based in Cincinnati. 

West-Ward Pharmaceuticals, Hikma's wholly owned subsidiary in the U.S., purchased Boehringer Ingelheim's Roxane Laboratories, Inc., located in Columbus, Ohio. The acquisition strengthens West-Ward's non-injectables business, bringing a broad and diversified non-injectables portfolio, strong R&D capabilities and well-invested, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities to the company's operations.
